Thousand Door Castle, a gem in the heart of Ilam history: a journey into the depths of history
Hazar Darb Castle, which is also known as Mir Gholam Hashemi Castle, Sikan Castle and Mir Gholam Hashemi Fortress, is a relic of the Qajar era, which is located in Farhadabad village, Dara Shahr city, in the embrace of the pristine nature of Ilam. This castle, which was registered as one of Iran’s national monuments on 16 Mehr 1379 with the registration number 2794, shines as if a gem in the heart of the history of this region and attracts many tourists every year.
An overview of the history of the castle:
In 1303 AH, during the time when Mir Gholam Hashemi, the then ruler of Dareh Shahr, ruled this region, an order was issued to build a magnificent castle in Farhadabad village. A castle that later became known as “Thousand Gates” and was recognized as a symbol of the power and greatness of the rulers of that period.

The thousand-door castle with a square plan and four towers in its corners displays strength and beauty at the same time. The materials used in the construction of this magnificent building include stone, mortar and brick, and it speaks of the elegance and skill of the architects of that period.

There are two entrance and exit doors in the castle, and the main entrance door stands out on the south side of the castle. This door, with its rib vault and brick decorations, is like a masterpiece of art that fascinates every viewer.

After passing through the entrance door, the central courtyard of the castle reveals itself. Different mansions of the castle are located around this courtyard and each of them tells a story of history. The inner mansion on the north side of the central courtyard, with two separate floors, was the residence of the ruler and his family.
