Takht Suleiman: a treasure of history and legend
Takht Suleiman, an ancient complex in West Azarbaijan province, has become one of Iran’s unique tourist attractions not only because of its age and magnificent architecture, but also because of the many legends surrounding it.
Antiquities:
Azargashsp Fire Temple: This fire temple, which was built on a high hill during the Sasanian period, was considered one of the most important religious and cultural centers of ancient Iran. In Zoroastrian religion, fire is a symbol of purity and light, and the fire temple of Azargashsp, as one of the largest fire temples of that period, played an essential role in Zoroastrian rituals.
Artificial lake: This lake, which is also known as “Takht Belqis”, was built by order of the Sassanids using bitumen and plaster materials. The presence of this lake next to the fire temple has shown the importance of water in Zoroastrianism and its use in religious rituals.
Palace: The remains of the Sasanian palace are located in the western part of the complex. This palace, which enjoyed greatness and glory in its time, was the residence of the Sassanid kings when they traveled to this region.
Suleiman Prison: The octagonal building “Suleiman Prison” which is located in the northwest of the complex, has been used as a prison and a place for prisoners in different periods. The special architecture and terrifying atmosphere of this building has caused many legends to form around it.
Mosque: The building of the mosque was built during the Ilkhanid period using bricks and stones. This mosque, which is currently recognized as one of the valuable religious works, shows the prosperity of Islam in this region in the post-Islamic periods.
Legends and stories:
In addition to its historical value, Takht Suleiman has become an attractive place for tourists because of the many legends surrounding it.
Birthplace of Zoroaster: Some believe that Takht Suleiman was the birthplace of Zoroaster, the Iranian prophet. The existence of the fire temple of Azargashsp and the historical antiquity of this complex give some credibility to this legend.
Prophet Solomon’s place of residence: Another legend about Takht Sulaiman is related to the place of Prophet Solomon’s residence and his hidden treasures in this place. The existence of the lake as well as the special architecture of the buildings have caused many to associate this place with the stories of King Suleiman.
Cursed dragon: In some stories, there is a cursed dragon in the depths of Lake Takht Suleiman. This legend, which is rooted in ancient beliefs, adds to the charm and mystery of this place.

In addition to existing ancient works and legends, Takht Suleiman has become one of the popular tourist attractions in Iran due to its beautiful nature and unique views.
