The history of silversmithing in Iran
Silversmithing in Iran has a long history and has been used in making ornaments, dishes and decorative items since ancient times. Due to the high value of silver, silver-stamped objects are often regarded as valuable gifts and a symbol of high social status.
Silversmithing steps
The steps of silver plating are similar to gold plating and generally include the following steps:

  • Preparation of the metal surface: the surface of the base metal (such as copper, brass or steel) is cleaned and smoothed.
  • Designing the design: the desired design is placed on the metal surface.
  • Creating grooves: using special tools, very thin grooves are created on the surface of the metal.
  • Placement of silver sheet: thin sheets of silver are placed inside the grooves.
  • Polishing: Using polishing tools, the work surface becomes smooth and shiny.
The difference between gold plating and silver plating
Both goldsmithing and silversmithing are based on similar techniques, but their main differences are as follows:
  • Color: gold has a yellow color and silver has a shiny white color, which gives a different effect to the final product.
  • Price: Gold is a more expensive metal than silver, so gold-plated items usually cost more.
  • Application: Both metals are used to decorate a variety of objects, but one of them may be more suitable in some cases due to color and price.
    Applications of silversmithing
Silver-plated objects have a variety of uses, including:
  • Jewelry: necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings
  • Dishes: cups, bowls, plates and other decorative dishes
  • Decorative objects: mirrors and candlesticks, small boxes and other decorative objects
  • Weapons: swords, daggers and other cold weapons
