St. Stephen’s Church, which is located 17 kilometers west of Jolfa city and near Aras River, is a shining gem among the tourist attractions of East Azerbaijan province. This church, which is known as the second most important church of Armenians in Iran, contains a treasure of history and culture.
A long time ago:
The construction date of St. Stephen’s Church dates back to 649 AD. This age makes it one of the oldest churches in Iran.
Over the years, this church has witnessed many events and ups and downs. Earthquakes, wars, and natural disasters have damaged this historical building many times.
But in spite of these damages, the effort and efforts of Armenians and the restorations have kept the Church of Saint Stephen safe from the ravages of time and natural and human events.

The architecture of St. Stephen’s Church is a unique combination of Iranian and Armenian architectural styles.
The large dome of the church is visible from a distance and adds to its splendor.
The interior and exterior decorations of the church are also very beautiful and eye-catching. Tiling, plastering, and wall paintings with religious and historical themes have created a spiritual and relaxing atmosphere in the church.
