Raba Rashidi: The scientific gem of Tabriz in the passage of history
Ruba Rashidi was a huge scientific, educational, religious and therapeutic complex in Tabriz, which was built about 750 years ago by Khwaja Rashiduddin Fazullah Hamdani, the scholar minister of Ilkhanian. This complex, which was known as one of the largest and most equipped scientific centers in the world, included a school, library, mosque, hospital, orphanage, observatory and industrial workshops.
A turbulent history:
The building of Ruba Rashidi was started in 706 AH and finished in 712 AH. In its time, this collection was known as the center of scientific and cultural gravity of the Islamic world.
Ruba Rashidi was damaged many times by earthquake and war throughout its history. In the earthquake of 1193 AH, the dome of Ruba Rashidi Mosque collapsed and many other parts of the complex were also damaged. During the Iran-Russia wars, the Rashidi quarter was captured by the Russians and used by them as a military barracks.
Despite these damages, Rabe Rashidi has been restored many times and still remains as one of the most important historical monuments of Iran.
Magnificent architecture:
Rabe Rashidi complex was built on a land with an area of about 70,000 square meters. This complex included four schools, a mosque, a library, a hospital, an orphanage, an observatory and industrial workshops.
Ruba Rashidi’s architecture was a fusion of Iranian and Islamic architecture. Bricks, tiles, and plaster were used in the construction of this complex.
Rabe Rashidi’s decorations were very beautiful and eye-catching. Tiling, plastering, and painting were used in these decorations.
Scientific and cultural role:
Raba Rashidi was known as one of the largest and most equipped scientific centers in the world. In this collection, prominent scientists from all over the world gathered and taught and researched in various scientific fields.
Rubab Rashidi Library was one of the largest libraries in the world in its time. In this library, exquisite and valuable manuscripts were kept.
Ruba Rashidi played an important role in educating new generations of Muslim scientists and scholars. Many graduates of this group achieved important scientific and political positions in the Islamic world.
Today, only its mosque remains from Raba Rashidi. This mosque, also known as Alisha Mosque, is one of the most beautiful mosques in Iran.
