The art of plush weaving: a valuable heritage of Iranian handicrafts

Plus weaving is one of the original and ancient handicrafts of Iran, which is rooted in the rich culture of the nomads and villagers of our country. Pluses are underlays that are made with wool or yarn and in different ways. This art is a symbol of elegance, creativity and unique artistic taste of Iranian women who create beautiful and lasting works using natural raw materials and simple tools.

History and application of Plus
In the past, blankets were mainly used by nomads and villagers to cover the floor of tents and houses, as a floor covering. Also, plasas were woven as dowries for brides and were a symbol of dowry and traditional values.

Raw materials and production process
The main raw materials for Baft Plus are:

Wool: It is one of the most common raw materials for plus fabric. The wool is dyed and then woven.
Cotton thread: Cotton thread was also used for the plus texture.
Plus production process includes the following steps:

Preparation of raw materials: wool or cotton yarn is washed, cleaned and then spun.
Dyeing: The spun wool is dyed with natural or chemical dyes.
Weaving: Long threads are stretched on the weaving loom.
Weaving: Using a comb and a mako, transverse threads are woven on the threads and the desired design is created.
Draining and drying: After finishing the weaving, the plush is washed and spread out to dry.
Plus types and designs
Pluses are divided into different types based on size, shape, material and design. Some of the famous Types of Plus are:

Plus screw: This type of plus is known for its more complex texture and more complex geometric designs.
Flat Plus: This type of plus is known for its simpler texture and simpler geometric designs.
Patchwork plus: This type of plus is woven using pieces of colored fabrics and has a variety of designs.
Plus designs are very diverse and complex. These designs are usually inspired by nature, religious symbols, slim lines and geometric shapes.

Today’s applications of Plus
Today, plushes are more decorative and are used as underlays, tablecloths, bedspreads, bags, wallets, etc. Pluses are also used in interior decoration.
