Nene Mukarmeh Museum: a treasure of paintings of a self-taught woman
Nene Makrameh Museum, which is also known as Nene Makrameh Museum House, is located in Derikandeh village near Babol city in Mazandaran province. This museum is dedicated to Makrameh Ghanbari, an Iranian postmodernist painter, who was known as Nene Makrameh.
Nene Mukarmeh was born in 1307 in the village of Darikandeh. Without any formal painting training, he started painting at the age of 50. His paintings are full of color and life, depicting subjects such as nature, rural life, and women.
Nene Mukarmeh died in 2006, but her paintings are still alive and are exhibited in Nene Mukermeh Museum. This museum was opened in 1391 with the presence of Farah Pahlavi, the daughter of the former Shah of Iran.
Nene Makrameh Museum consists of two parts: Nene Makrameh House and Gallery. In Nene Mukarmeh’s house, you can see her personal belongings and living space. In the gallery, more than 100 paintings of Nene Mukarmeh are exhibited.
