Maragheh blue dome: a turquoise gem in the heart of history
Maragheh Blue Dome is a brick mausoleum tower with unique turquoise tiling decorations located in Maragheh city. This building, which is also known as the Round Tower and Mother Dome of Helakokhan, is one of the most important historical monuments of Iran and a clear example of the architecture of the Seljuk period.
History:
The exact date of construction of the blue dome is not known, but most historians attribute it to the Seljuk era and around the 7th century AH. Some believe that this building is the tomb of Halakukhan’s mother, Ilkhan Mughal, but there is no definitive document to confirm this.
Architecture:
The blue dome of Maragheh is a cylindrical tower with a height of 21 meters and a diameter of 12 meters. The body of the tower is made of bricks and has unique turquoise tiling decorations. These decorations include geometric motifs, salami and inscriptions in Kufic script. The dome of the tower is also decorated with turquoise tiles.
Importance:
The Blue Dome of Maragheh was registered as one of the most important historical monuments of Iran in 1310 in the list of national monuments of Iran. This building is a clear example of Seljuk period architecture and is very important in terms of tile decorations.
