Kanglu Castle, the high-flying eagle in the heart of Alborz
Konglo Castle, also known as Konglo Fortress, is located on the heights of Mount Alborz and near Konglo village in Mazandaran province. This fort is actually a military fort built on a huge rock in steps. Due to its special location, unique architecture and historical antiquity, Konglo Castle is known as one of the tourist attractions of Mazandaran province.
Magnificent architecture:
Kanglu Castle consists of two separate parts that are connected by a bridge. The first part, which is known as the central core of the castle, is located at the highest point of the rock and has numerous towers and ramparts. The second part, which is located below, includes the fences, stables and warehouses of the castle.
The main materials used in the construction of Kanglu Castle are stone and plaster. Local techniques have been used in the construction of this fort. The arches of the castle are similar to the arches of Espahbad Khursheed cave and other historical buildings in the region.
History of the castle:
The exact date of the construction of Konglo Castle is not known, but some experts attribute its date to the Sassanid era. Others believe that this castle was rebuilt and used in later periods by Espahbad Khurshid, one of the local rulers.
Name of the castle:
The name Kanglu means “high and inaccessible place”. This name was chosen because of the location of the castle on a high rock.
Access path:
To access Konglo Castle, you need to drive from Haraz Road to the town of Pol Sefid. After passing through the city of Pol Sefid, drive about 39 km on the Swadkoh road to reach Kanglu village. Then, with a walk of about 500 meters, you can reach Kanglu Castle.
