Hazrat Maryam Urmia Church: A gem in the history of Azerbaijan
Hazrat Maryam Urmia Church, also known as Nene Maryam Church, is one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Iran. This historical church is located in the city of Urmia and in an area called Barandoz.
Ups and downs history:
The date of construction of Hazrat Maryam Church is not known exactly. Some experts attribute the date of its construction to the 7th century AD. This historical church has been restored many times throughout its history.
In 1380, valuable ancient works such as a marble coffin decorated with Syriac script and cross motifs were discovered in this church. This discovery shows the historical and religious importance of the Church of Hazrat Maryam.
Unique architecture:
The Church of Hazrat Maryam is also very valuable in terms of architecture. This church has a central building and two small domes on its two sides. The entrance to the church is through a beautiful arch with stucco decorations.
Beautiful wall decorations and religious paintings can be seen inside the Church of Hazrat Maryam. The altar of the church is also decorated with mosaic tiles.
