Damghan Grand Mosque: a treasure of architecture and history
Damghan Grand Mosque, a jewel in the heart of the desert, with its magnificent architecture and rich history, attracts many pilgrims and tourists every year. This mosque, located in the center of Damghan city, is one of the oldest mosques in Iran and dates back to the Seljuk era.
Architecture:
Damghan Jame Mosque with an area of about 12000 square meters has different parts including the nave, porch, dome, minaret and mihrab. Each of these parts is designed and executed with elegance and precision and is important from the point of view of architecture.
Shebastan:
Damghan Jame Mosque’s nave has provided a spacious and cool space for worship with brick columns and high arches. The brick decorations and tiling of this nave have doubled its beauty.
Porch:
The porch of Jame Damghan Mosque is located on the south side of the building and has beautiful tiling and moqran work decorations. This porch is a suitable space for holding congregational prayers and religious ceremonies.
Dome:
The dome of Jame Damghan Mosque is 15 meters high, made of bricks and has beautiful tiling decorations. This dome, in terms of architecture, is considered one of the most beautiful mosque domes in Iran.
Minaret:
The minaret of Jame Damghan Mosque with a height of 30 meters is the tallest minaret in Damghan city and it is made of bricks. This minaret has beautiful brick decorations that are unique in its kind.
Altar:
The altar of Jame Damghan Mosque is made of marble and has beautiful carvings and plastering decorations. This altar was added to the mosque in the Safavid period.
Date:
Damghan Jame Mosque has been renovated many times throughout history. The oldest part of the mosque is its nave, which was built during the Seljuk period. The porch, dome and minaret of the mosque were added to the building in the Ilkhanid and Timurid periods.
