Curtain weaving in Iran: an old art with a bright future

Curtain weaving is one of the valuable and ancient handicrafts of Iran, which is rooted in the rich history and culture of this land. This art, combining aesthetics and application, is considered as one of the main elements in the interior design of homes and public places.

A rich and varied history

Curtain weaving has a long history in Iran and has been popular since the distant past as a hand-woven and machine-made art. In the past, curtains were mainly made from natural fibers such as cotton, linen and silk and were decorated with simple geometric and floral designs. With the passage of time and the advancement of technology, the variety of fabrics and curtain designs has increased dramatically.

Types of curtains and their uses

Curtains are produced in different types, each of which has different features and uses. Among these types, the following can be mentioned:

Traditional curtains: these types of curtains are produced with traditional Iranian designs and patterns and are suitable for creating a warm and intimate atmosphere.

Modern curtains: Modern curtains are produced with simple and minimal designs and various colors and are suitable for modern and contemporary decorations.

Roller blinds: These types of blinds consist of horizontal blades and are suitable for light control and privacy.

Zebra curtains: Zebra curtains consist of two layers of transparent and opaque fabric, and by moving the layers, the amount of incoming light can be adjusted.

Shade roll curtains: these types of curtains are rolled up and are suitable for large windows and modern spaces.

Raw materials and production methods

The raw materials used in woven curtains include different types of fabrics such as silk, satin, velvet, linen, polyester, etc. Choosing the type of fabric depends on factors such as decoration style, amount of incoming light, budget and space usage.

In the production of curtains, traditional and machine methods are used. In the traditional method, all production steps from spinning to weaving and sewing are done manually, and the produced products have a high artistic value. In the machine method, advanced devices are used for the mass production of curtains, which reduces the production cost and increases the production speed.
