Birjand Castle, also known as the Lower Shahr Castle and Te Deh Castle, is the largest historical building in the city of Birjand, which is located in the South Khorasan province of Iran.
This castle is located on the highest point of the hill of the western slopes of Birjand city. The construction date of this castle goes back to the Safavid period and it was completely renovated and used in the Qajar period.
Birjand Castle has an area of about 3000 square meters and is made of clay, mud and stone. This castle had 7 towers, 6 of which are left.
In the past, Birjand Castle was used as a government headquarters and a shelter for people against enemy attacks. This fort has water and food stores so that people can take shelter in it during enemy attacks.
