Band Dara, a gem in the heart of the desert
Dara dam is a historical dam near the city of Birjand, the capital of South Khorasan province. This dam, built in the heart of the mountain, collects river water and stores it for agriculture and other uses.
The date of the construction of Dara Dam dates back to the end of the Zandiya period and the beginning of the Qajar period. At that time, South Khorasan region was facing drought and water shortage. To solve this problem, the local people decided to build a dam in the valley where a river was passing through.
Building a dam was not an easy task. Using simple tools and relying on their efforts, the local people built a wall about 20 meters high and about 100 meters long from stone and mortar. This wall created a reservoir to store water.
Dara Dam has played an important role in agricultural development and economic prosperity of the region. By using the water of this dam, the local people were able to irrigate their lands and grow different crops such as pomegranates, grapes, almonds and pistachios.
In addition to economic benefits, the valley dam also has environmental benefits. This dam helps to prevent floods and protect the soil. Also, the dam of the valley has become a place for breeding fish and birds.
Today, Band Dareh is one of the popular tourist attractions in South Khorasan province. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful nature and amazing scenery around the dam. Also, they can enjoy boating in the dam reservoir and visiting the local museum located near the dam.
The valley dam is a symbol of human effort and creativity in the fight against drought and sustainable development. This dam is a relic of the past that has been preserved for future generations.
