Bahram Fire Temple of Yazd, known as Varahram Fire Temple or House of Zoroastrians, is one of the most important attractions of Yazd city, which is more than 1500 years old. This fire temple is the place where the sacred fire of Zoroastrians is kept, which has been kept burning for centuries.
History of Bahram Fire Temple:
The exact date of construction of Bahram Yazd Fire Temple is not known, but some sources attribute its date to the Sasanian era. Throughout history, this fire temple has been attacked and destroyed many times, but each time it has been rebuilt by Zoroastrians.
Architecture of Bahram Fire Temple:
Bahram Yazd fire temple is built on a land of 5000 square meters. This fire temple consists of two main parts:
Outer part:
The outer part of the fire temple includes a courtyard, a garden, a museum and a library. Ancient objects and dishes related to Zoroastrians are exhibited in the Ateshkodeh Museum.
Inner part:
The inner part of the fire temple is where the holy fire is kept. This section includes a large hall with a fireplace in the middle. The fire pit of Bahram temple is designed in such a way that the smoke from it is directed outside.
Holy Fire:
The sacred fire in the Bahram Temple of Yazd is of the “Bahram fire” type. Bahram fire is a pure and holy fire made from 16 different types of fire. Zoroastrians believe that the sacred fire is a symbol of Ahura Mazda, the one God, and keeping it lit helps to purify and brighten the world.
Zoroastrian customs and traditions in Atashkdeh:
Zoroastrians must take off their shoes and perform ablution before entering the fire temple. When they enter the fire temple, they bow to the sacred fire and respect it. Zoroastrians pray in the fire temple and ask God for help.
