Badgir Chepaghi Sirjan: a symbol of Iranian intelligence and creativity in the heart of the desert
Chepaghi Sirjan Windmill is like a tall chimney in the heart of Kerman desert. This unique windmill, which is 150 years old and belongs to the Qajar era, is a reminder of the intelligence and creativity of Iranians in the past to deal with the overwhelming heat of the desert.
Iranian engineering masterpiece:
Sirjan wind turbine is an example of Iranian engineering masterpiece in the past. The high height of the fan, its special design in the form of a chimney, and the clay materials used in its construction, all show the knowledge and skill of Iranian architects at that time to cool houses in harsh desert conditions.
Natural cooling system:
How does Sirjan’s Chepaghi fan work?
Air flow: The wind is directed into it through the vents installed at the bottom of the wind deflector.
Speed increase: As the wind passes through the long and narrow channels of the wind deflector, its speed increases.
Cooling: The warm air inside the house cools down by passing the cool and fast air inside the wind deflector.
Ventilation: Cooled air is directed into the house and hot air is pushed out.
