Baba Afzal’s tomb: a journey into the depths of history and mystery
Location:
Baba Afzal’s tomb is located at the highest point of the westernmost village of Maragh, 42 kilometers northwest of Kashan. This village is known as one of the summer villages of Kashan city. To reach the mausoleum, one has to cross a winding mountain road that displays beautiful natural scenery along the way.
History and history:
The exact date of the construction of Baba Afzal’s tomb is not known, but according to its architectural style and decorations, it can be attributed to the Ilkhani period (7th and 8th centuries AH). Throughout history, this mausoleum has undergone numerous renovations.
Architecture:
In terms of architecture, Baba Afzal Tomb is a unique example of Iranian art and creativity during the Ilkhanid era.
Building specifications:
Court: The mausoleum has a wide and square court decorated with various trees and plants. In the middle of the courtyard, there is an octagonal basin that doubles its beauty.
Dome: There is a pyramid-shaped dome on the tomb, which is decorated with seven-colored tiles in Slimi and Khatai patterns. The dome rests on a prismatic base whose height reaches 25 meters.
Entrance: The entrance to the tomb is located on the south side of the building and is decorated with a tall arch and tiled decorations.
Decorations: In addition to tiling, other decorations such as brickwork, moqrans work and plastering are also used in the building. Inside the mausoleum, there is an inlaid wooden chest placed on Baba Afzal’s grave.
