History of embroidery
The exact date of the origin of Ajide Dozi is not known, but the evidence shows that this art reaches at least the Achaemenid period. At that time, embroidered ajideh was used to decorate the lower part of archery belts so that its heavy weight would not bother the archer’s shoulders. After that, numerous examples of embroidery can be seen in sculptures of the Parthian and Sassanid eras. In the Islamic period, Ajideh embroidery was relatively popular and reached its peak of prosperity in the Safavid, Afshariya, Zandiya and Qajar periods.
All kinds of embroidery
Ajideh embroidery is done in two main ways:
- Simple embroidery stitch: In this method, without using the middle layer, the desired design is sewn directly on the fabric.
- Layered embroidery: In this method, a thin layer of cotton is placed between two layers of fabric and then the design is sewn on it. This method gives the designs more volume and prominence.
