Description
The Hasanlu Tepe is one of the most important archaeological sites in northwestern Iran, located near the city of Naqadeh. The site represents an ancient settlement mound formed by thousands of years of continuous human habitation. Excavations show that Hasanlu was inhabited from the 6th millennium BCE through the Iron Age and later periods.
The site gained international attention during excavations in the mid-20th century when researchers uncovered remains of a prosperous Iron Age city that was destroyed by a sudden and violent attack around the 9th century BCE. This destruction preserved many buildings and artifacts in remarkable condition.
